Picture this: My husband tripled his salary in an instant when he changed jobs. Instead of popping the champagne or planning our next family holiday, I’m devastated.
I wasn’t aware of it in the moment but unconsciously I was competing with my husband. And he’d just lapped me big time. How was I going to catch up when I was running a business that was barely making 30k per year? I was already exhausting myself working nights and weekends around caring full-time for my kids with no support, just self-reliance and hard graft. I felt powerless.
That was changing point number one. I wouldn’t have known what was going on with me unless I’d looked into money mindset and archetypes. It helped me understand what was driving my behaviour related to money and explore better ways to meet my needs that were begging to be heard.
So I knuckled down and did the money mindset work. Lo and behold, things turned around for me. I made incremental upgrades and was a bit of a money mindset coach for Mr G which paid off really quickly. I started a hugely successful Airbnb business. I was a super host with 90% occupancy and 5 star reviews. We bought a property to renovate and added £100k of value to it in 5 years. It must be my happily ever after, right?
Here comes changing point number two and oh boy is it a hard hitter. Mr G changed jobs for long-term benefits but the short-term reduction of income was a bitter pill. I closed the Airbnb business because of the pandemic and ended up with an additional tax bill that neither I nor my accountant had accounted for to the tune of over 40k (Hello HMRC payment plan). Later that year due to a death in the family, I closed all our businesses.
Grief-stricken, in a mountain of debt and sitting in a half-finished house I hit rock, rock bottom.
But I didn’t tap out. I stayed in the room of personal development and entrepreneurship, licking my wounds. I started a new business that had nothing to do with money. Somehow I was always talking about money mindset anyway which led to light bulb moments like having more money does not solve ALL problems.
The next step was looking at me in the eye very pointedly. I had been a student of Sacred Money Archetypes since 2017 but never felt ready to take the leap to become certified myself. After the birth of my yearned for 4th baby (with a 9 year age gap - ouch!), my Maverick self finally accepted what my Romantic had been saying all along and I went all in on becoming a money coach for entrepreneurs.

As a money coach, I’m not going to tell you what to do with your money or your business. I’m going to help you figure out the key to improving your financial situation by going deeper into what exactly is driving your beliefs and behaviour around money. Yes, I love being a money coach and delivering crazily accurate readings of people’s money archetypes that leave us all wondering whether I’m psychic. But what really gets me fired up is thinking about how I’m part of the bigger movement to close the gender gap in financial control.
If we look back in scarily recent history, women have had to fight to gain financial control, never mind financial freedom. It wasn’t until the 1960s and 70s that women were able to open up a bank account, get their own credit card or get a mortgage without a male signatory.
Gender bias around money persists to this day. An analysis of financial articles found 60% of articles directed at men recommended investment apps while 90% of articles directed at women told them to cut back. I’ll pause while you scream “What the actual f***!” It’s representative of the very real gender gap in financial control. For example, women retire with average pension savings of £69,000 compared to £205,000 for men, driven by the career gap many women take to start and look after families.
I could go on about all the ways women are held back from using the power of money even though we’re pretty good at using it seeing as women are better investors and more likely to invest to make a positive social impact. But let’s start with you: driving the profits in your business, sending more money to your personal bank account and making money decisions that bring you joy!
